Sunday, (Aug 30) – Praise God for the wonderful example of true humility that is seen in the life and ministry of Christ, who lived His life in humble submission and obedience to the Father. Thank God that we are in union with Christ, and we have the mind of Christ. Pray that we will choose to submit to the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit in our lives so that He will help us develop the fruit of humility, meekness and goodness that was so evident throughout the life of Jesus. Pray that the Spirit will help us not to do anything out of selfish ambition or foolish vanity, but rather that we will develop the godly grace to regard the needs and desires of others as being more important than our own.
Monday, (Aug 31) – Pray that the Holy Spirit will empower the Church of Malaysia to hold fast to Christ, and not let our faith be weakened by the temptations of the world. Pray that believers will commit every aspect of their lives to Jesus, and in areas where we have lowered our Christian standards and allowed compromise to set in, we will humbly confess them before the Lord, and seek His grace to help us rededicate our lives to Him. Pray that pastors and church leaders will teach and preach sound doctrine to their members, and the people will hear the Word of God through their hearts, and allow the Word to shape their standard of belief and behaviour.
Tuesday, (Sep 1) – Pray for the Nation: As our nation has just celebrated our 63rd Independence Day, give thanks to God that despite the political instability caused by weakened coalitions, Malaysia remains peaceful and well placed to navigate through these unprecedented times brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic and the global trade wars. Pray for full freedoms to be accorded to all peoples of Malaysia to enjoy; such as religious freedoms, social, educational and economic equality and fair play among races and religions, so that the symbolism of Merdeka and a free people are honoured.
Wednesday, (Sep 2) – The locality of Amanjaya district in Kedah has been put under strict lockdown indefinitely in a move to control the spread of Covid-19, and residents will not be allowed to leave the locality, while outsiders will not be allowed in. Pray that members of the public will be patient, and exercise social responsibility, giving full cooperation to the frontliners, and strictly adhering to the restrictions brought about by the SOPs of the enhanced MCO. Pray that God will grant success to the health ministry and the transmission of the virus will be effectively curbed.
Thursday, (Sep 3) – Pray for the Orang Asli (OA) new believers in our nation that they will bear good fruit as they grow and mature in Christ. Pray that God’s Word will take root in their hearts and help them overcome bad habits and negative influences from the former way of life, and from unbelieving relatives and friends. Pray that they will hold fast to their faith in Christ, and not turn to charms and fetishes, to seek healing in God, and not resort to seeking help from the village bomoh. Pray that as they live new lives in Christ, they will be effectives witnesses for Him to the pre-believers in their villages.
Friday, (Sep 4) – Pray for the Methodist Church in Malaysia: The General Conference (highest executive body) of the Methodist Church in Malaysia was meant to be held in a hotel in PJ from September 8-11, 2020. However, due to the current pandemic, the GC will only be held on September 8, online. Pray that the 6 different Conferences (meeting at different hubs both in West & East Malaysia) will be successful in having online GC, and especially in the voting system – that it will be trouble free. Pray for the election of a new Methodist bishop (2021-2024). Our current bishop, Rev Dr Ong Hwai Teik, cannot stand again for the bishop’s post due to his age. Pray that the new bishop will be a person under God’s mighty empowering and will be obedient to God almighty.
Saturday, (Sep 5) – Pray for the World: India is the country hardest hit in Asia by Covid-19, and its confirmed cases will soon cross the 4 million mark, with more than 65,000 deaths. Pray for God’s wisdom upon the Indian government as it struggles to address the rising numbers of infections, and the devastation of health services and livelihoods, with tens of millions of people having lost their jobs.
