STEVEN LEE CHENG TENG
24 Sep 1942 – 14 Nov 2010
This is the only race worth running. I’ve run hard right to the finish, believed all the way (2 Timothy 4:7). Thus is the theme verse that described the life of our brother Steven Lee. He was diagnosed with advanced stage cancer and sought treatment since early this year.
A banker by profession, he had worked in Standard Chartered Bank for over 30 years in various positions within the Asia region. Post retirement, he was engaged by other financial institutions and subsequently served in Seminary Theology Malaysia, Seremban.
Steven is no stranger to many of us in Klang Wesley. He was involved in the Boys Brigade in his early years and served in various leadership positions in the LCEC. Apart from the life of the local church, Steven was also actively involved in the Gideons Ministry and more recently in helping setup a local community church in Shah Alam.
Steven was a gifted person in the area of administration. He used his giftings to help ensure that the house of God was in order and that the church was accountable for the stewardship of resources provided. His passion was demonstrated in multiple aspects from church finances to membership databases, from Bible distribution to conference registration, from home visitations to pastoral relations, and his latest songbook compilation. In all these, he undertook the roles with a great sense of responsibility and conviction in his heart.
Steven was also a devoted husband, lover, companion and friend to Doris. A dedicated father, adviser and role model to Andrew, Bernard and Samuel; together with their spouses Helen, Li May and Sen Sing. He was also a loving grandfather to Joshua, Zoe and Jared.
We will miss our brother dearly. We thank God for allowing Steven to be part of our lives. He has truly lived the life described in 2 Timothy 4:7 and challenged us to make our lives count for the Kingdom of God.
